Barrier washing machines are equipped with two opposite chambers to avoid repeated contamination: one for loading dirty laundry, and the other for unloading clean laundry. In most cases, the chambers are separated by a metal partition that prevents the laundry being washed in one chamber from contacting the air and water in the other chamber.
